A quiet rebellion, in bedside form.
In the early 1980s, the Memphis Group — led by Italian designer Ettore Sottsass — challenged the rigid rules of modernism. Where mid-century design favored restraint, Memphis embraced contrast, color, and a sense of humor. Geometry became expressive. Furniture became conversation.
These two nightstands take their cue from that moment.
Originally found in a worn, forgotten state outside Amsterdam, their solid wood construction offered a strong foundation — even if time hadn’t been particularly kind to them. Rather than restoring them back to neutrality, they were given a new direction.
A rich teal body anchors the pieces, while sharp orange accents introduce movement and asymmetry. Subtle line work frames the geometry, and the playful ceramic knobs complete the composition. The result sits somewhere between mid-century calm and Memphis energy — with just a hint of coastal ease.
They are not identical, but they belong together.
A pair with personality.
Designed to stand out — quietly or not.
